Rebecca Johnston and Canada remain perfect at the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship after their 5-1 win over Czechia on Friday.

Canada received goals from Marie-Philip Poulin (2), Renata Fast, Blayre Turnbull, and Laura Stacey on Friday. Goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens made 14 saves in her second start at the tournament.

Czechia's Natalie Mlynkova scored her country's first-ever goal against Canada in the first period, tying the game briefly at the 18:27 mark.

Johnston, who is a part of the Flames' player development and grassroots hockey development team, logged 12:05 of ice time in the victory, putting one shot on net. She has one goal in two games, picking up her first goal at the tournament on Wednesday in the 4-0 win over Switzerland.

Johnston is a Team Canada veteran with 14 international tournaments to her name. She made her international debut in 2008, winning silver at the World Championship and has captured gold five times in her career: the 2010, 2014, and 2022 Winter Olympic Games, and the 2012 and 2021 World Championship.

The 33-year-old is currently a member of Team Scotiabank with the PWHPA and was recently named a Forward Of The Year candidate after a strong performance throughout the 2022-23 season. In 13 games, she netted nine goals and 18 points.

Canada is back in action on Saturday when they face off against Japan at 5:00 p.m. MT. TSN is carrying the television broadcast from Brampton, ON.
